In NY visiting my mom. My flight's been cancelled, Allen called with that news just before. But he also says the article about Down the Rabbit Hole did come out in the News & Observer, on the front page of the LIFE section. I'm so pleased. See the top link on the right for the online version.

A few more installation photos:

and one opening night shot. I brought the wrong lens, my close up lens that I had changed to the night before, trying to photograph a spider over the dining room table. Oh well. This is the only shot that's halfway in focus...

The opening and fund raising dinner for Down the Rabbit Hole were fantastic, through the haze and miasma of the worst cold I have ever had. I hung the show with a sore throat and feeling poorly, and a half gallon container of OJ at the ready, but alas, it did no good. Everything exploded from Wednesday on. I waved white tissues in front of my face whenever someone came over to me to wish me well at the opening, going periodically to my handy dandy bottle of hand sanitizer at Thursday's dinner. Still, lots of virtual hugs at the opening and pretend hand shakes at the dinner. So wonderful to have my sister and Joel here. Lots of love and support and good good food, at Vin Rouge two nights in a row and take in Thai food last night, with a showing, in our living room, of David Mamet's The Spanish Prisoner from Netflicks (I missed the last half falling asleep and have just added it to my queue), a trip to Target for the girls yesterday and then hula hooping, reading and lying/sleeping in the grass for Claire, Susan and me, respectively. Wonderful birthday weekend!

Following the live blogging of the health care vote on NY Times on line! Simultaneously scary and thrilling; maybe it will actually happen. So frightening, these protesters, with their racist/homophobic shouts and signs. More insidious, the applause and support of Republican members of the House and Senate.

A pre-preview, of sorts. I've been printing for the Follow the White Rabbit dinner. Each guest receives a print, so I've made 48 images at 4" x 6", on sheets of 17" x 22" paper. Here they are...

Allen's been in California and I've been working every single waking hour on Alice, or one of the other shows, but mostly Alice. No time to market and cook. Very strange for me, as cooking, and hence marketing, have been something I so look forward to doing, particularly lately. I've been eating like a single person the last few days, mostly whole grain pasta in garlic oil and a salad, and going to Claire's favorite places, bringing home dinner for her. Last night it was Akai Hana, her all time favorite restaurant. I love that a Japanese restaurant is her favorite. Here are some photos from their garden, with night writing from the little sparkly lights on the fence...

And again, Claire. Here's a drawing of hers from some years ago, don't remember how many. She's had a rough couple of days, coming up against her first encounter with Middle School girl meanness. None of that in this picture, only the sweetness of a young girl's imaginary band.

Printed the penultimate image for Alice today. Running from cards. It's how I have felt, a little bit, over the last few weeks.

I've been looking through my photos again, this time for my show in May at Craven Allen Gallery in Durham. Here are some things I've found. I'm very excited about this show; both John and Paul (where are George and Ringo?) have voiced their support for an installation type show, not unlike my show last spring at the Durham Art Guild, a chance to fill the space with individual photos, groups of photos, large pieces, hand-made books, and a video/audio piece with text. I've been thinking about it all weekend, designing it, wall by wall, having gotten the floor plan from John on Friday. MUST get back, finish up printing and framing for Alice tomorrow. But for now, some magnolias...
